ECHOmistrzoWIE: engaging online education for cardiologists powered by a flexible LMS

Challenge

ECHOmistrzoWIE is an educational initiative aimed at cardiologists, designed to deliver online workshops focused on echocardiography. The project drew upon insights gained during the development of the Dr Sim platform, but required adapting functionality, communication, and content to a new target audience and distinct brand identity.

The core challenge was to design a digital learning environment that would allow cardiologists to gain practical knowledge in a workshop format—entirely online—using video content, interactive educational mechanisms, and gamification. Another key requirement was integration with Salesforce Marketing Cloud to support effective communication campaigns around the workshops.

Scope and Services

The 300.codes team led the complete implementation of the educational platform, reusing proven elements from Dr Sim and customizing them for ECHOmistrzoWIE. Our work included:

  • Discovery Phase (Product Scoping) – defining the needs of the cardiologist audience and establishing feature priorities
  • UX/UI Design – designing an interface optimized for clarity, intuitiveness, and comfort in a medical context
  • Gamification – implementing a points system and rewards catalog to enhance learning motivation
  • Development – building the platform using modern technologies
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration – automating and personalizing user communication
  • Analytics Configuration – implementing behavior tracking and reporting for educational effectiveness

Technical Implementation

The platform architecture and tech stack were based on solutions developed for Dr Sim, expanded with additional components tailored to ECHOmistrzoWIE.

Headless CMS: WordPress

Built on headless WordPress, the platform offers flexible content management, high performance, and scalability. With separate front-end and back-end layers, both users and admins benefit from smooth, efficient operation.

Multisite Architecture

ECHOmistrzoWIE operates as a separate instance within the multisite architecture created for Dr Sim (→ see Dr Sim case study). This allowed for a rapid launch on proven infrastructure while maintaining a unique brand, educational paths, and content strategy.

Progressive Web App (PWA)

As a PWA, the platform offers full responsiveness, cross-device accessibility, and offline functionality—perfect for busy medical professionals.

  • Astro Framework – lightweight and fast front-end
  • Tailwind CSS – consistent, modern UI styling
  • Gutenberg CMS – intuitive content editing for the editorial team

Key Platform Features

Video-Centered Learning

ECHOmistrzoWIE is built around video content, which serves as the foundation of each workshop. Users have access to professionally produced clinical cases, echocardiographic analyses, and expert commentary.

Gamification With Real Rewards

Participants earn points for platform activity (watching videos, taking quizzes, etc.) and can redeem them for physical rewards. This boosts engagement and adds tangible value to the learning experience.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration

To support communication before, during, and after workshops, the platform was integrated with Salesforce Marketing Cloud. This enables automated campaigns, content personalization, and complete tracking of user engagement.

Educational Content

  • Video Materials – core content with expert commentary
  • Quizzes and Knowledge Tests – for progress tracking
  • Statistics Module – real-time insight into points and achievements
  • Paywall – gated content encourages registration and user base growth

Referral Codes and Medical Representative Activation

A referral code system was implemented to drive user acquisition and assign new users to specific Medical Representatives. This mechanism:

  • Motivates cardiologists to register by offering bonus points
  • Engages Medical Reps through gamified tools linked to their outreach
  • Measures the effectiveness of direct promotional efforts

This tool connects educational objectives with sales and communication processes, supporting the overall growth strategy of the platform.

Results

ECHOmistrzoWIE successfully launched and quickly gained traction in the cardiology community. Within weeks, users were actively participating in learning paths, earning points through gamification, and exchanging them for rewards—demonstrating the platform’s readiness for scaling both educational and marketing efforts.

Thanks to a robust technical foundation and a well-designed multisite architecture, ECHOmistrzoWIE serves as a scalable base for ongoing community engagement. The project has now entered a growth phase with intensified promotional efforts, backed by Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration for targeted outreach and optimized user experience.

The platform proves that modern e-learning tools can be effectively tailored to the needs of a specific medical specialty—creating space for engaging and measurable online education.
